Wooden Fireplaces

Wood, in the strict sense, is yielded by trees, which increase in diameter by the formation, between the existing wood and the inner bark, of new woody layers which envelop the entire stem, living branches, and roots. Wood fireplaces are usually solid timber or composites such as MDF. Solid timber is more expensive due to its natural wastage but yields much better finishes and is much higher quality than composites. MDF or medium density fibreboard fireplaces are mass produced, hence the lower costs. These are usually finished with a high quality wood or wood look veneer applied to the top, to finish them off
