For general day to day cleaning cleaning of limestone products , use clean water and a damp cloth. Ensure that the entire section is cleaned as watermarks can occur when a small section is treated in isolation. If you would prefer to seal the limestone , to provide resistance against staining , please be aware that often the appearance of the limestone is altered . Please also be aware when using a sealant that some are suitable for exterior use only.
First use soapy water to wash off excess dirt or white spirit for more stubborn stains. We would NOT recommend that you use washing up liquid for cleaning these materials. Following cleaning, household polish can be used to give a lustrous finish.
Cast Iron products can rust easily unless the surface is protected. Regular applications of protective coatings will prevent this , a good example of which is Zebo. Alternatively, Cast Iron can be lightly oiled with WD40 or some other suitable light oil.
If these are manufactured in solid brass then Brasso or Duraglit is fine, but please be aware that it is an abrasive.
If they are not solid brass , a non-abrasive polish such as Peek or any other non-abrasive cleaner should be used .
Please note: Some trims and frets are applied with a lacquer and therefore do not require polishing with chemicals, simply wipe with a damp cloth and buff with a dry soft cloth.
